About

Here at CARE...

... we combine physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques with pilates and movement to support those affected by cancer. This evidence-based approach is effective in managing many of the side-effects associated with cancer surgery and cancer treatment.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality rehabilitation service to those affected by cancer through all stages of their treatment and recovery

Movement is powerful. Our ethos is Feel better, live better meaning our aim to is get you moving so that you can feel better during any stage of treatment or recovery and get back to doing what you want to do.

CARE is here to support your wellbeing

  • Movement is not just exercise and sweating
  • Movement can help you feel better
  • Movement is accessible to everyone, at every stage.
  • Movement can be nourishing, replenishing and restorative
  • Let us help you move, so you can “feel better, live better”
  • Experience the power of movement at whatever stage you are at.
  • You don’t need to wait to start moving, there is no timeline, no cut off point.
  • You don’t need to “be fit” to start.
  • You don’t need to wait until you are feeling better to start. Start now. We can help.

Cancer Rehabilitation is more than just exercise prescription

It requires specialist knowledge of physiology, healing times, effects of radiotherapy on underlying tissues, consequences of different types of chemotherapy and hormone therapies, management of symptoms related to all cancer treatments and realistic frameworks of recovery.

Research shows that cancer rehabilitation can help:

   Improve Bone health
   Improve bladder and bowel function
   Reduce co-morbidities
   Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease
   Reduce fatigue
   Improve sleep
   Increase muscle mass and strength
   Improve balance and co-ordination
   Reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms
   Improve quality of life
   Prevent long term disability

About Catherine...

Catherine lives by her favourite quote from Joseph Pilates himself “Change happens through movement and movement heals”, a philosophy that is reflected in her physiotherapy and pilates practices alike. Catherine is also a Crossfit enthusiast and coach. She firmly believes in the power of movement, in its countless forms and is passionate about getting people moving in a safe, encouraging, and fun manner!

Her approach to cancer rehabilitation is no different. Get moving to “feel better, live better”.

Catherine has over a decade of experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor.

Through personal and clinical experience, Catherine has seen first-hand the physical and emotional impact cancer and its side-effects can have on the lives of people affected and the people close to them. Her PhD research and background as a Women’s Health Physiotherapist deepened her interest in both Pilates and cancer rehab. Catherine is a PINC and Steel Certified Cancer Rehabilitation therapist, and has extensive training in movement, pilates and rehabilitation.

Despite the huge volume of high-quality research to support cancer rehabilitation, many people are missing out due to limited awareness, availability, and access to services.

The side-effects of cancer and cancer treatment are real but often it’s only those with a diagnosis and their loved ones who know the ongoing difficulties cancer treatment can bring.

Catherine aims to enhance cancer rehabilitation services, to improve the lives of people living with cancer and beyond, so they can feel better and live better!

CARE is based in Glow Pilates, Limerick. We are located on O’Callaghan Strand, just under The Strand Hotel.
