I talk a lot about breathwork and starting small.
Why is this so important?
In my experience in treating people during and after cancer surgery and treatment this foundational
component of cancer rehabilitation is often forgotten.
We are in a hurry “to get back to normal”.
To get our bodies back.
To get our routine back.
To regain some control.
And of course, we want normality- we have been through so much!
But often in our hurry to get back to normal we go too fast and try to do it all (is that even possible
or is it learning to live in a new normal?)
We try to jump back into life where we left off. And this is where we can get injured. We do too
much too soon, increase our fatigue, deplete our limited energy and often end up with new injuries
and pain.
So where does breathing come into this?
Breathwork creates space. It gives us a moment to connect back to ourselves.
To pause.
To stop.
To feel.
To reflect.
Often this pause is harder than any exercise will ever be. Because within that pause lies the fear, the
worry, the stress.
But we cannot skip this step.
What we resist will persist.
These emotions will show up in our body, in our tissues as tension, tightness and pain .
Give yourself the gift of slowing down.
To pause.
To create connection.
Connection with yourself.
Connection with your body.
Connection with your soul.
Give yourself time to come home to yourself.
Remember you are not alone in this.
